Parenting is Like a Box of Crayons

After a brief stint of screaming and uncontrollable emotions, I have one child who is grounded from TV and computer and claims that we don't love her as much and that she has nothing else that she could possibly do and another child who is basking in a world of being "the good one".
I can't take much more of this so I must come up with something soon...enter coloring book and crayons...so I sit down and we start to color, this brings the youngest off the computer as she wants to join the coloring and relaxes the emotions of my oldest...whew!

As we are coloring, I watch them choose their pictures and then choose the colors for each item carefully. I decide that parenting is like a box of 64 crayons (with the built-in sharpener). Parenting consists of creativity, variety, choice, diligence, vibrancy, trying to stay in the lines but having it be ok when you go outside. Parenting also comes with some dull moments when sharpening becomes necessary (perhaps when you aren't quite sure what to do or when a decision was questionable or didn't quite have the outcome you had hoped for). Parenting has a learning curve, is there always a right answer? Absolutely not and what works for you may not work for someone else so it often ends up being trial and error and mental notetaking saves face when the next difficulty arises.

We love being parents and love the challenges that keep us one our toes and keep us guessing. We try our best to do what's right and to learn from our mistakes. And, just like the completed, colored picture, we love and take pride in the masterpieces that are our kids each and every day!

Watching Noah

Baby Noah spent the night at our house and the girls were so excited and were also such a big help. Emma wanted to feed him, put him to bed, change his diaper, hold him and the list goes on...if Noah needed it, Emma wanted to get it for him.

He is a VERY happy and content baby and he absolutely LOVED David, he would watch him leave the room and when he would come back into the room, Noah's attention diverted directly to him. I think David LOVED him back just as much...

Kisses when it was time to take him home and Emma says, "Why can't you have another baby?" followed up with "Are there any more babies we can babysit?"
So, I guess Emma's Babysitting Service is
OPEN FOR BUSINESS...
Love you sweet Noah!

And Emma Just Wants to Have Fu-un!

In celebration of the 80th day of school, Emma's kindergarten class dressed up 80s style. This was a fun challenge and I was able to find everything we needed searching through her closet as well as old dance costumes and dress up items. We think she looked great and so did her teachers. Since dressing her up, I have a strong desire to plan an adult 80s dress up party.
Details TBA.

Lucky Numbers!

Q: What's the best way to remember your lucky number?
A: Write it on your hand as big as you possibly can with a Sharpie.

A couple of days ago we had a discussion and decided what the girls' lucky numbers were...
Brianna was born on 2-1-02 at 12:22pm. She weighed 8 lb 2 oz and was 20 inches long. We decided her lucky number is 2.

Emma was born on 5-26-05 at 7:55am. Although irrelevant to the outcome of the lucky number findings, she weighed 6lb 9oz and and was 20 inches long. We decided her lucky number must be 5.

...anyway, before we knew it, they had both "Sharpied" their lucky numbers on the backs of their hands so they wouldn't forget.

Good grief girls!

School Lunches + Picky Eaters = New System!

If you know anything about my girls' eating habits, you know they are PICKY! So, in order to get them to eat healthier and add a little bit more of a variety (in baby steps, of course), I have come up with a system.

The back door seemed to be the perfect spot because it is magnetic and it has two areas, one for each kiddo. I found clip art of the foods they like and printed them out - color coded roughly by food group - and put them on magnets.
The rule: they have to choose one item from each group for their lunch each day. I will throw in some treats and maybe even some new things to try. I am not holding my breath on that part though, I am not kidding when I say they are PICKY, PICKY, PICKY! I guess we will see how this works out...

American Girl Dallas

Happy New Year 2011!

Ok, so here we go again...another year, another 365 days of endless possibilities, another attempt for me to follow through with a project from start to finish. If you followed "my blog" last year you know I only kept it up until March, yes, I know, March, pitiful isn't it? Well, here I go again and I am vowing to keep it up
ALL YEAR LONG! Yay me! Well, we'll see...
